COSMETIC BONDING

A dentist must possess exceptional artistic skill to create beautiful, natural results with cosmetic bonding.  Dr. Nielson has extensive training and experience using cosmetic bonding to enhance and repair many smile problems.   Below are some actual examples of cosmetic bonding performed by Dr. Paul Nielson.

- Complete Smile Makeover with Cosmetic Bonding
- Masking discoloration with Cosmetic Bonding
- Closing Gaps with Cosmetic Bonding
- Repairing chipped teeth with Cosmetic Bonding

THE PROCEDURE: A chameleon-like resin material is bonded to teeth to close spaces, cover discolorations, resape worn teeth, or to repair old fillings and cavities. Because the material is strong and adheres to teeth very well, cosmetic bonding usually involves minimal to no tooth recontouring (drilling) and often no anesthetic (novocaine) is needed.

THE COST: Cosmetic Bonding is very affordable both with and without dental insurance. Depending on the reason for placement, in many cases the majority of the cost is covered by dental insurance.

THE AMOUNT OF TIME INVOLVED: Usually only one appointment is needed. Depending on the amount of cosmetic bonding required, the appointment may last 60 minutes to a few hours.

EXPECTED LIFETIME: In most cases cosmetic bonding lasts 6-8 years and is replaced due to a desire for a fresh cosmetic look. At LifeSmiles Dental Care we warranty cosmetic bonding against chipping or discoloration for two years so long as you maintain your preventative hygiene visits.

SMILE MAKEOVER WITH COSMETIC BONDING:

PATIENT HISTORY: Andrea was referred to Dr. Nielson by a local pediatric dentist.  She had chipped her front teeth when she was a child and had received bonding many years ago that she was never pleased with.  She desired a conservative, inexpensive solution to restore her smile to her previous, youthful appearance.

TREATMENT:  Direct cosmetic bonding was placed over 10 of Andrea’s teeth to completely rejuvenate her smile.  Very little to no drilling was necessary.

MASKING DISCOLORATIONS WITH COSMETIC BONDING:

PATIENT HISTORY: Dawn was referred by her coworker Kate.  She had lived her whole life with people telling her she had something on her front teeth.  She never knew how easily she could remove the hereditary staining.

TREATMENT: Only the discolored portions of her front teeth were recontoured and covered with a thin layer of cosmetic bonding.

CLOSING GAPS WITH COSMETIC BONDING:

PATIENT HISTORY: Carmen was referred to Dr. Nielson by a local orthodontist.  Due to her bite, braces could not be used to close the gap.  She desired a conservative, inexpensive solution to enhance her pretty smile.

TREATMENT: Cosmetic bonding material was placing on the side of each middle tooth to close the gap between her front teeth.

CLOSING GAPS WITH COSMETIC BONDING:

PATIENT HISTORY: Yolanda was referred by her daughter Carmen.  She wanted the space between her canine and lateral teeth closed and the chip fixed on her middle tooth.

TREATMENT: Cosmetic bonding material was placed alongside each tooth to close the gap.  Also, bonding was placed on the edged of her front tooth to repair the chipped area.  Note how healthy the gum tissue looks between the teeth where the bonding was placed!

REPAIRING CHIPPED TEETH WITH COSMETIC BONDING:

PATIENT HISTORY: Isabel fell at the playground and chipped her front tooth.  Her tooth was not loose and did not need a root canal.  Due to Isabel’s young age and strong remaining tooth structure, repairing her tooth with cosmetic bonding was the best choice.

TREATMENT: Using a special layering technique with many shades and translucencies of materials, Dr. Nielson was able to recreate the broken portion of Isabel’s tooth.
